Beard Meats Food takes on The Koop, Northallerton challenge
An influencer with nearly six million followers, Adam Moran, who posts weekly on his YouTube channel, Beard Meats Food, visited The Koop recently and captured every moment on camera as he tackled the ‘Big Gravy Challenge’.
Piled high with poutine, spicy chicken, sweetcorn and spicy ‘inferno’ wings, Adam called it a “mountain” as he settled into his chair to take it on, much to the manager David Carr’s delight.
“It’s an absolute beast of a portion,” David, who runs the joint with his brother Stephen, confessed.

“But seeing some of the portions Adam’s got through before, it was clear he would be able to finish it.”
The challenge, which awards victors with their meal for free and a t-shirt if it is eaten in less than 30 minutes, had so far been left without a champion after a handful of punters failed to conquer it.
But, Adam pushed through the spice and raced through the food mountain in just under 22 minutes, to the delight of several who had congregated to watch the man, who has amassed two billion views for his food content, at work.
“It’s very, very impressive to watch,” David said. “Adam is a great guy, he’s really down to Earth, and we can tell he really likes helping small businesses.”
The Koop has already seen the impact of his visit.
“We grew up in Northallerton, so it is great to have so many eyes, not only on The Koop, but on the town,” David said.
“We’ve now had international requests to sell the t-shirt.”
With plenty more people looking to take on the testing platter, The Koop is promising to keep the item on the menu ‘into the New Year’.
And for those thinking of taking it on, David has one piece of advice.
“Remember to bear in mind the spice levels, it’s the one thing Adam underestimated.”
