Alan Shearer inspired pie launches at North East pub
Shearerβs Pie is now being served at The Blackbird in Ponteland as part of a collaboration betweenΒ Anarchy Brewery of Heaton and Gateshead’s Great Northern Provisions.
The dish was launched in time for National Pie Week, which runs from March 2 to 8.
Chris Eagle, chef and owner of Great Northern Provisions, said: “We wanted to create a pie that would honour the great man itβs named after and we are very proud of it.
“Itβs a classic, British pie filled with brisket, cooked in Shearerβs beer for a minimum of seven hours and paired with a slow cooked sweet onion compΓ΄te, which really offsets the wonderful depth and bitterness of the beer.

“And the pastry is made of a combination of shortcrust and puff, so you really get the best of both worlds.”
The pie is exclusive to the pub and is served with new potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and gravy, priced at Β£17.95.
Mark Thompson, general manager at The Blackbird, said: “Itβs a great addition to the menu and we canβt thank the teams at Anarchy Brewery and Great Northern Provisions enough.
“It really is a fantastic pie.”
Shearerβs Beer, the ale used in the pie and brewed specially by Anarchy Brewery, is designed to raise funds for the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle.
A portion of every can and pint sold is donated to The Shearer Foundation.
The beer is also available in pubs and bars including The Strawberry, Fenwick, Shark Bar, and Enjoy Beer in Morpeth.
