Orega celebrates first anniversary in Newcastle
Orega opened its doors in the city one year ago, occupying over 200 desks and attracting companies from a variety of sectors.
The firm launched its 25th UK location at No 2 St James’ Gate in the southwest corner of the city centre.
The provider took on 22,500 sq ft of space after signing a long-term management agreement with Palace Capital plc.The kitchen area (Image: Orega)
The firm then carried out a comprehensive refurbishment of the second and third floors of the 82,500 sq ft building, creating what it describes as ‘high-quality, Grade A flexible private workspaces’.
The facilities boast tech-enabled meeting rooms, various working zones to boost productivity, unlimited barista-style coffee, a high-end concierge service, and a five-star hotel aesthetic.
The latest tenants to sign with Orega in Newcastle include global architecture and engineering consultancy, Ramboll UK, which will move in in May 2025, and trade association, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
Other tenants include Vistech Services, Clyde & Co LLP, SSE Utility Solutions, and Hays Recruitment.
Palace Capital’s head of asset management, Daniel Davies said: “We are thrilled to see what a success Orega has made of their space at St James Gate in a relatively short amount of time.
“Having so many new companies working from the building has created a new-found vibrancy and enhanced our business community.”
Orega’s sales and customer service manager at St James Gate, Jen Weaver, added: “We knew there was demand for luxury, flexible office space in the city but the interest we’ve had, and the feedback from clients, really has exceeded our expectations.
“We’ve just been shortlisted for a commercial property award for ‘Design Excellence’ which is very welcome recognition for how well the office space has been received.”
Business development manager, Sam Daniell, who moved into Orega Newcastle seven months ago, praised the provider.
He said: “I have nothing but good things to say about these offices. It’s a great location, very central and easy to access by train or Metro.
“The facilities are top-notch, professional but not sterile, with plenty of breakout spaces for meetings and calls.”
No 2 St James Gate has been newly refurbished and offers some of the ‘highest quality space’ in the city, including a contemporary and ‘stylish’ reception area, together with open plan Grade A office space with panoramic views of the city.
It offers one of the only column-free floor plates in the city providing very flexible and adaptable accommodation.
It lies at the gateway between Central Station and the Forth Goods Yard and Quayside West Development Area, which extends to the south and west.
This area is set to deliver a ‘significant’ number of new homes, offices, leisure, and public open space.
