House of Hair Newton Aycliffe named in Echo’s top ten
We’re on the lookout for your favourite hairdresser in County Durham, and thanks to your votes, we’ve narrowed it down to ten finalists.
Over the next few days, we’ll be speaking to the finalists to find out what being nominated means to them and why they want to win.
Today, The Northern Echo speaks to House of Hair on St Elizabeth’s Close in Newton Aycliffe.
Owner Sophie Black, 32, explained how her business grew so fast that she had to find a new premises.
She said: “We first opened back in August 2024 but we moved to this new premises because I outgrew it within three months.
“I had a really loyal group of clients when I worked in Middleton St George but I had to leave there when I found out I had fibromyalgia.
“I couldn’t do general hairdressing anymore but I realised I could sit down and do hair extensions which led me to open up this business and there has been a lot of new clients.
“In our salon it’s a relaxed, friendly and down to earth vibe. I put all of my energy into my work and business – it’s a huge part of my life.
“It’s amazing to get this nomination, I couldn’t believe that I got nominated. It gave me a real big buzz.”
Voting slips will be available in The Northern Echo until March 1 where you can pick your winner.
Then, the final totals will be tallied and our 2025 champion will be crowned.
