I tried the new Popeyes menu and this is what I thought

Now, I’m no connoisseur when it comes to the food on offer at the beloved American chain as, until now, I’d never given it a go.

With customers across the UK clamouring to get their hands on the brand-new boneless and saucy items, I figured now was as good a time as any to try it out.

I tried the new Popeyes menu items and this is what I thought

Popeyes on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street (Image: Colin Mearns, Newsquest) Upon entering the Popeyes restaurant on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street, I was met with the unmistakable sound of Louisiana thanks to the wave of New Orleans-style music emitting from the store’s speakers. But would the food on offer live up to the taste of Louisiana?

The staff were very friendly and gave me a flying stop tour of the kitchen where I saw first-hand how the food was prepared to the highest standard and with the utmost care.

To give each item a fair shake, I took a bite into each of them and wrote down my first thoughts.

Garlic Parm Saucin’ Boneless

The new sauce had a similar taste to American sliced cheese and was maybe a little sickening and rich for my liking but that’s not to say it was bad.

I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and ate every last bit of the mouth-watering fried chicken.

The one thing I can say with certainty about the hot wings is that they are messy, so have a napkin ready!

Despite the Garlic Parm sauce being used once again, the nippy chicken accompanying it gave it a proper kick, raising the standard of the offering to a whole new level.

I quite enjoy a wee bit of spice, so the inclusion of this certainly improved the sauce and dish massively for me.

Buffalo Saucin’ Boneless

However, I did enjoy the slight nip from the sauce with its glowing aftertaste allowing it to linger on the tongue for some time after.

If you like your Buffalo sauce, you’ll love this!

Bold BBQ Saucin’ BonelessBold BBQ Saucin’ Boneless (Image: NQ/Andrew Smart) The Bold BBQ Saucin’ Boneless chicken meal was a favourite of mine from the get-go with the rich, sticky and sweet condiment being a stand-out flavour in the new range.

Much like the other boneless items, the chicken for this box meal was splendid and a delight to eat. The meat practically melted in my mouth when I bit into it.

If I had to recommend just a single item from the new range, this, without a doubt, would be the one.
