Lotto Powerball riches jackpots, three winners share million first division draw

The couple, who wished to remain anonymous, struck gold in last Wednesdayโ€™s draw.

โ€œWe picked the numbers together a long time ago and have been playing them ever since,โ€ the woman said.

On Thursday, the woman was going to clean her car when she heard on the radio that a MyLotto player from Taranaki had won.

โ€œI was on my way out the door when I heard the news and said to my husband, โ€˜Iโ€™d just better check the ticket because otherwise Iโ€™d be thinking it could be me, it could be meโ€™,โ€ she said.

The woman grabbed her iPad and logged into MyLotto to watch the virtual draw.

โ€œI watched all the numbers come up one after the other โ€“ I was just speechless โ€“ and then when I saw the amount, it was absolutely incredible,โ€ she said.

โ€œThere were a few tears, thatโ€™s for sure. We kept looking at the ticket to check it was real โ€“ it was unbelievable.โ€

The lucky couple spent the rest of the day talking about what they wanted to do with their winnings, but said life would not change significantly.

โ€œWeโ€™re not going to make any immediate big decisions but one thing we did decide on straight away is how weโ€™re going to help our family,โ€ the woman said.

โ€œWeโ€™re excited to get together and tell them the good news, when the time is right.โ€

Meanwhile, two other players picked up $333,333 in the same draw with Lotto First Division. The winning tickets were sold at Pakโ€™nSave Wairau Rd in Auckland and on MyLotto to a player from Rotorua.

Last weekโ€™s jackpot was the second Powerball winner of 2025, after a Wellington couple took home $7m on January 8.

In 2024, there were 23 Powerball winners across the country.
