JJโs Sushi Spot, Darlington on โreally successfulโ opening
JJ’s Sushi Spot on Skinnergate opened at 11am, making sushi fresh in front of customers to eat in or take away.
Owner Jurgita Jurgaityte, originally from Lithuania, has been offering pick-up orders from her home for the last year-and-a-half and moved to Darlington in 2022, having lived in London and Spain.
And Jurgita, who was helped by her son Dainius, said the day was overwhelming at times, but really successful on the whole.

โI like to make people happy and serve nice food,โ she said.
โThere have been many people who have come today who have told me, โWe need something like this in the townโ.
โIt is totally different to other sushi places in Darlington. Some people have even said they do not like sushi, but they are going to try it.โ

Signs went up at the takeaway last week, with Jurgita promising to bring something โtotally differentโ to Darlington.
She signed the contract for the building last month and held a soft launch event on Sunday, March 29.

โWe will be serving fusion sushi (blend of traditional Japanese sushi techniques), sushi burgers, deep-fried and baked sushi,” Jurgita said.
โWe will use raw fish, cooked fish and even meat. People who do not like sushi have told me they love it.โ
JJโs Sushi Spot on Skinnergate is open Tuesday and Thursday 11am-6pm and Friday and Saturday 11am-7pm.
