New Shotley Bridge Indian restaurant announces opening date

Kushi, a contemporary Indian restaurant, will welcome customers in Shotley Bridge, Consett, from 5pm on Monday, March 30.

Located on Front Street in the former Rumi’s venue, the restaurant has undergone a complete refurbishment.

Abdul Salam, 44, who owns the business, comes from a family with a long history in the restaurant industry.

His father worked at the first Indian restaurant in Newcastle, while his uncle ran the first in Morpeth.

Jakob Cross, 24, from Kushi, previously said: “We have fully refurbished and gutted the place.

“It is going to be furnished to a high standard.

“It is completely different to anyone who has been in before, other than the windows, we have changed everything.”

The team is looking forward to becoming part of the Shotley Bridge community.

Mr Cross said: “It is a new area for us.

“We are quite excited and looking forward to meeting everyone.”

Kushi will offer takeaway options andΒ is fully licensed, hoping to serve a cocktail menu alongside its food.
