Amazon Ingleby Barwick works continue on new warehouse

The tech giant is currently building a new 10,800 sq m delivery station just off Queen Elizabeth Way beside the Preston Farm Industrial Estate.Β

Once open, it will sort packages for delivery before they are shipped out to customers’ doorsteps across Teesside, County Durham, and North Yorkshire.Β

The Β£40m development, which was revealed by The Northern Echo last year, has made way for major works along the busy road, largely due to the addition of a new roundabout.Β

And now, plans have been submitted to Stockton Borough Council for new Amazon logo signs to be put up on the warehouse.Β

Planning documents show the logo will be added on the south, north, and eastern side of the site in a bid to β€œencourage visibility”.

It comes as new pictures taken this week show the major progress on the build, with walls now covering the metal frame from the Queen Elizabeth Way side.

Last month, Amazon revealed that more than 100 new roles would be created at the site, including managers, supervisors and associates.Β

The centre, which is earmarked to open this autumn, will be the first delivery station designed to achieve Living Future’s Zero Carbon Certification in the UK and Europe.

The building becomes eligible for certification in 2027 following a full year of operational data collection and third-party assessment.

It is being built using lower-carbon steel with high recycled content, and timber beams to create a more sustainable structure, lower-carbon concrete, wall panels, and roofing materials.

Amazon is also testing new technologies to assess its potential for wider adoption on future projects including cement free paving, carbon-storing building materials , AI-powered tracking to track carbon emissions, and photo-based tracking.

Amazon estimates total carbon emissions will be at least 20 per cent lower than its previous design standards, and use around half the energy compared to a typical logistics building.

More than 1,400 sq m of rooftop solar panels will power daytime operations and the building will use an all-electric heating and cooling system.

Once operational the site will have two entrances, with the main entrance and exit for staff vehicles and HGVs being from Lockheed Close.
