Stephenson-Mohl Group reveals new business development head

Stephenson-Mohl Group has announced Neil Whittaker as its new Director of Business Development, in a move to support its ongoing growth in advisory and local research work across the UK.

Mr Whittaker, who has more than 20 years of experience in business growth, stakeholder engagement, and public policy, will split his time between the company’s North East headquarters in Newcastle and its Westminster offices.

He will play a key role in connecting regional organisations with national policymakers and decision-makers, as well as securing soft landings for businesses looking to invest in northern England.

Mr Whittaker said: “Stephenson-Mohl Group is a genuine regional success story, helping the north east attract investors while working with clients to influence decisions made in Westminster, and when the opportunity to join the business arose, I didn’t have a moment’s hesitation.

“For almost a decade the company has worked with some of the north of England’s most recognisable businesses to help deliver vital development and renewables projects, worked with firms to enhance the region’s clean energy credentials, created opportunity for talented individuals and, more recently, managed renewable energy projects that will go a long way to helping the UK become energy self-sufficient in the future.

“Having known Mark and much of the team for many years, I know I am joining an exciting, ethical and motivated business that, while it operates across the UK, has its heart very much in North East England.”

Mr Whittaker is an MBA-qualified commercial leader whose experience spans senior roles in marketing, communications, and business development across sectors including education, financial services, SaaS, and industrial sectors.

He spent nearly nine years as director of marketing and communications at Learning Curve Group, where he played a central role in scaling the organisation during a period of significant growth.

His background also includes senior marketing posts at Hargreaves Services plc and work with government departments, ministerial advisers, local authorities, and the mayoral combined authorities across the UK, helping shape regional and national policy and securing funding, positive outcomes and influential support for companies.

Mark Stephenson, managing director of Stephenson-Mohl Group, said: “Neil is a fabulous addition to our team and is going to be a big part of our story as we look ahead.

“He brings political acumen, business development experience and, importantly for us, is an expert in communications.

“Stephenson-Mohl Group works with some incredible clients to deliver some incredible projects.

“Neil’s expertise will help us showcase the fantastic work we’re doing that is enhancing the North East jobs market, business space or energy generation potential.”

Mr Whittaker has spent the last week meeting with the teams in Newcastle and London.

His appointment marks another significant step in Stephenson-Mohl Group’s growth, reinforcing a commitment to championing North East interests while delivering strategic insight at the heart of Westminster.
