Three Ridings English single malt English whisky Collaboration

Three Ridings is the result of a collaboration between Yorkshire’s a maltster, a brewer and a distiller

It is named after the historic East, North and West Ridings of Yorkshire and is produced by a team spanning Castleford, Masham and Ellers Farm in Stamford Bridge.

Chris Fraser, founder of Ellers Farm Distillery, said: “Three Ridings didn’t start with a marketing brief.

“It started with the question β€” how do we make the best possible single malt in Yorkshire that can stand alongside the very best in the world?”

Mr Gervais said: “Three Ridings is the result of the pursuit of excellence, and I am very proud of what we have created.”

Fawcett & Sons, a Castleford malting business with roots dating back to the 1800s, provides the foundation for the project.

Brewing expertise comes from Theakston in Masham, while distillation, maturation and blending are led by Ellers Farm Distillery.

Simon Theakston, chairman of T&R Theakston Ltd, said: “The development of Three Ridings Single Malt whisky has been a wonderful adventure, shared with our supremely talented partners.

“Developing the β€˜wash’ for a new malt whisky is a natural extension of what we do every day and will enable us to extend our reach into this new and exciting market.

“We could not be any more proud than we are of our association with Three Ridings Single Malt Whisky.”

A four-part documentary series filmed across Castleford, Masham and Stamford Bridge tells the story behind the whisky and the collaboration that made it possible.

The series explores the journey from barley to bottle through the eyes of those who made it.

Three Ridings takes full advantage of English whisky’s creative freedom.

It uses heritage barley varieties, flavour-driven malt and roast choices, and long fermentations to build texture and complexity.

Distillation is designed to soften roughness without sacrificing character.

The whisky is matured primarily in carefully selected ex-bourbon American oak casks, with no added colour, chill filtration or shortcuts.

Those behind the project said the result is a whisky that is “will be shaped by Yorkshire itself β€” honest, smooth and full of character.”

Three Ridings is described as rooted in tradition, but not constrained by it.

Where heritage offers wisdom, it listens.

Where convention limits flavour, it looks further.

The documentary series launched on March 3 and is available on Three Ridings’ digital channels.

It marks the beginning of the brand’s public journey and invites viewers to follow its progress.

The first release of Three Ridings will go on sale later this year.

People can secure one of the 1,000 individually numbered bottles by purchasing the Evolution Collection through the Three Ridings website.

The Evolution Collection is a set offering early supporters a guaranteed first edition bottle of the new single malt.
