The Middleton-in-Teesdale chippy which has ‘the best’ chips

Middleton-in-Teesdale Fish and Chip Shop in County Durham has been picking up praise online, with a 4.7 rating on TripAdvisor.

Recently, the chippy took home nine awards at the 18th British Pie Awards including gold and silver accolades in the Fish and Chip Shop Pie category for its chicken curry and fish pies.

The shop also won silver in the steak and kidney category for a pie featuring red wine gravy, and another silver in the Meat and Potato category.

Five bronze awards rounded off the haul, including one for a curried goat pie.

One TripAdvisor reviewer said: “Stopped in on the way home from a walk for the first time on a recommendation from a friend, just for chips, and it was excellent.

“The chips were cooked fresh and were amongst the best chips I have ever eaten.

“The staff were really friendly. I will definitely be back and will be having the fish too next time.”

Another customer praised the consistency of their visits.

They said: “My wife and I visit weekly. The food is good, you may have wait for it to be cooked but it is well worth it.

“This is a family business so their children will often be there lighting up the atmosphere but never by the cookers.”

A third reviewer described their Good Friday experience.

They said: “Visited for fish and chips on Good Friday, there was a bit of a wait but that was expected given it’s probably their busiest day of the year and everything is made fresh to order, the staff were helpful and polite even under pressure and the fish was quite possibly the nicest I’ve had for a long time.”
