Norton-based Original Baker eyes national pie award
The Original Baker has submitted three pies into the 2026 British Pie Awards, as the nation gears up for British Pie Week, which runs from Monday, March, 2 β Sunday, March 8.
Kevin Walton, head of Marketing at the Original Baker, said: “Following a standout year of accolades β including our Steak & Stilton being recognised, a record eight wins at the Farm Shop & Deli awards, and a Great Taste Award to top it off β weβre returning to Melton Mowbray with the same aim: to put proper British pie craft firmly in the spotlight.
“In honour of British Pie Week, The Original Baker is also launching two innovation-led pies that offer a fresh take on what βtraditional pieβ can be: Pork Stroganoff Potato Topped Pie Potato Topped Cottage Pie.
“These new launches are built around one of the biggest taste-and-texture shifts for 2026, pies that deliver a multi-sensory experience, not just a single flavour note. From creamy to crisp, rich to light, todayβs consumers increasingly choose foods that feel more indulgent through contrast β with texture now a major driver of preference and loyalty.”
Kevin added: βOur goal is simple, keep the soul of a British classic, but modernise the experience β layers of comfort, contrast, and proper satisfaction.
“These potato-topped pies are familiar, but theyβre also something new.β
The British Pie Awards celebrate excellence across 20-plus classes, recognising craftsmanship in everything from pastry and bake to filling, flavour, and finish.
Judging for the British Pie Awards takes place in Melton Mowbray on Wednesday 4 March, with the Awards Lunch on Friday 6 March.
