Work on Β£7million hangar for Draken at Teesside Airport
Construction is underway on the Β£7million Hangar 362 at Teesside Airport, part of an expansion by military aviation firm Draken to support growing operations.
The company, which delivers world-class aviation training services for the RAF including electronic warfare, renewed its agreement with the MoD at the start of 2025 after the firm signed a Β£173million contract to support military training with the RAF.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Itβs brilliant to see this hangar moving forward with British steel rising from the site.
“Draken is a crucial partner for our airport and our region.
“They play a big role in training exercises for our RAF to keep our country safe and secure, and theyβre investing and growing, too.
“This new hangar is another big step forward for Teesside is itβs great to see it creating opportunities for local firms and delivering more good-quality jobs for local people.

“Itβs yet more proof that our airport is now about far more than passenger flights β itβs a key driver of growth and good-quality local jobs.”
The new facility will provide a home for advanced combat aircraft β including the Alca L-159E “Honey Badgers” which are regularly seen over Teesside skies on training sorties with RAF fighter squadrons.
It will also create almost 50 jobs in our region.
The new hangar is being erected by regional firm S&A Fabrication Ltd with work now well underway.

Phil Forster, managing director of Teesside International Airport, said: “Itβs fantastic to see steel in the ground and real momentum behind this Β£7million development for Draken.
“Weβre proud to see our partnership with Draken continue to grow, and equally pleased to be working once again with S&A Fabrication, who have done such outstanding work supporting our expansion over the past few years.
“The fact Draken is expanding its operations here speaks volumes about the increasing confidence in Teesside as a place to invest, innovate and grow.
“Weβre seeing more firms choosing our airport to grow β particularly in skilled jobs, advanced engineering and long-term opportunities.
“Weβre honoured to see Draken continue to invest in Teesside and itβs a fantastic example of how Teesside is flying high as a location for growth, technology, and investment.”
