Babul’s in Barnard Castle reopens after refurbishment

Babul’s welcomed back customers on Thursday (February 12) having put the final touches on the revamp.

Improvements mean the restaurant can now serve the same menu as its sister site in Darlington, featuring dishes such as Railway Lamb.

The menu also includes Biryani Tiffin – fragrant basmati rice layered with spiced sauce – along with Colombo Kari, a Sri Lankan-inspired dish featuring chicken in ginger and tamarind sauce.

Photos show the extent of the renovation works inside the restaurant.

The kitchen upgrade comes as Babul’s expands its presence in the region, opening a street food stall in Darlington’s Indoor Market following a series of pop-ups.

The restaurant signed a short-term lease at the market for at least one year.

Zak Ahmed, owner of Babul’s, said at the time of the stall’s opening: “We are serious about what we do, we have got the restaurant reputation to look after, so we cannot mess around here.

“We are going to bring our A game.”
