Middlesbrough cable firm posts another bumper performance

The Middlesbrough-based electrical cable wholesaler, headquartered on Riverside Park Road, saw turnover climb to Β£486.7m in the year to April 30, 2025, up from Β£456.5m a year earlier. Pre-tax profit rose to Β£42.4m, compared with Β£33.6m last time, while post-tax profit jumped to Β£31.7m from Β£25.2m. Gross profit increased from Β£60.8m to Β£72.9m.

Directors pointed to buoyant demand and inflationary pressures on cable prices as key drivers. They praised progress made by the firm’s major projects team, new facilities and its overseas operations, adding that the balance sheet and liquidity continues to be healthy.

Cleveland Cable, which supplies electrical cables and accessories into sectors ranging from construction and infrastructure to energy and industry, now employs an average of 598 people, up from 582 the previous year.

The family-owned business remains firmly rooted in Teesside despite its growing international footprint, with the directors highlighting the company’s role in the local community and wider region. They said Cleveland Cable ‘takes its role within the sector very seriously and promotes and encourages community and charitable contribution’, and recognises the importance of its environmental responsibilities.

Directors said the business is now focused on continuing to win new customers and implementing new solutions to ‘automate more of the customer journey’. They expect growth to continue despite ongoing volatility in international commodity prices. The company said it manages the impact of swings in base metal prices – particularly copper – through careful control of stock levels, cost prices and selling prices in a highly volatile market.
