Yarm Road Fish and Chips, which was crowned Takeaway of the Year at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2025, shared the news on social media today (January 30), telling customers they will soon be able to enjoy a drink alongside their meal.

Posting on Facebook, the team said: β€œExciting news! Our licensed bar is opening soon. You’ll soon be able to enjoy a little tipple with your award-winning fish and chips.

β€œWhether it’s alongside your takeaway or as part of a relaxed dine-in experience in our brand-new restaurant, we’ve got you covered.”

The new bar will form part of the recently opened eat-in venue in Darlington which opened last July, after a successful eight-year takeaway service and 15 years in Barnard Castle.

The new bar marks another milestone for the popular family-run chippy.

In February last year, Yarm Road Fish and Chips was named the best takeaway in the UK at the prestigious National Fish & Chip Awards.

The accolade was announced at a grand ceremony in London recognising the very best in the fish and chip industry.

Owner Will Burrell, from Darlington said winning the award was β€œ25 years in the making”.

The 30-year-old said: β€œIt just felt like everything came together and all of the hard work was worth it.”

Their success has also taken them far beyond County Durham.

Last September, owners Will and his dad Graeme jetted to Japan for two weeks to serve their award-winning fish and chips at Hankyu, one of the country’s largest department stores.

Graeme said the fish and chips went down a storm.

He previously said: β€œThey loved our fish and chips. We took our own Icelandic cod, which was flown over especially, our own flour to make our batter, it made everything very authentic.

β€œThey mixed our ingredients for our own homemade tartare sauce which went down a bomb.”

More updates on the bar will be announced in the coming weeks.
