Mexican restaurant Zapatista closing at Dalton Park
Zapatista in Dalton Park, near Murton, shared the news yesterday with a βheavy heartβ after nearly three years of trading.
The restaurant, which has served customers everything from burritos, fajitas and sweet potato chilli, blamed βrising costsβ for the closure.
The Mexican-inspired and vegan-friendly burrito bar has been a firm favourite in the North East since it hit the scene in 2012, known for its bold Mexican flavours as well as its selection of craft beers and cocktails.

The restaurant opened at the much-loved shopping venue in 2023.
Taking to social media yesterday (January 29), the food chain announced the news saying: βIt comes with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Zapatista Dalton Park.
βThank you to all of the lovely customers that supported us over the last two years, but unfortunately due to numerous continuing rising costs, we have had to close our doors at Dalton Park.
βThank you for all of the messages of concern, and we appreciate all of you that visited us during our time at Dalton Park.
βPlease continue to support us at Newcastle or Durham.β
Following the news, customers were quick to share their disappointment online.

One person said: βWent today – so sad to see it had closed. Always had fantastic food and friendly staff.β
While another commented: βSuch a shame, the food was lovely, and it was nice to have some a little different.β
The nearest restaurants in the North East are Newcastle and Durham, which are operating as usual.
