M&S launches new Colin the Caterpillar cake after 35 years

For the first time since the irresistible sweet treat brand was created 35 years ago, including the famous original birthday cake, the retail giant has finally introduced a gluten-free Colin the Caterpillar cake.

The long-awaited announcement comes as M&S revealed a gluten-free Colin the Caterpillar cake was the “most requested product on social media” and now customers have said “it’s the best news ever”.

The Made Without Wheat Gluten Free Colin the Caterpillar “doesn’t compromise on flavour, fun or chocolatey goodness” and of course includes Colin’s staple (and moreish) white chocolate face.

Those who are gluten intolerant and have been diagnosed with celiac disease can also expect “an extremely chocolatey rolled sponge filled with smooth chocolate buttercream, coated in milk chocolate”.

On its website, M&S shared: “Made Without Wheat Gluten Free Colin the Caterpillar is every bit as iconic as you’d hope.

“We’re proud to introduce a gluten-free Colin that doesn’t compromise on flavour, fun or chocolatey goodness.

“Expect an extremely chocolatey rolled sponge filled with smooth chocolate buttercream, coated in milk chocolate and finished with Colin’s signature white chocolate face and sugar-coated beans.

“We all know it’s simply not a celebration without Colin. Head to your local Foodhall from 28 January and find him in the Made Without aisle.”

Earlier this week, M&S teased the arrival of a gluten-free Colin the Caterpillar cake online which sent shoppers into a frenzy on social media.

Someone wrote on Reddit: “I left the UK 15 years ago and this is the first time I have regretted it. So jealous.”

Another noted: “And it’s the same size and price as the non gf version!”

This person responded: “So exciting!! I can actually have a big cake for my birthday this year hehe.”

While one account chimed in: “I want to fly to the uk just for this (from Canada).”

Elsewhere on Facebook, this M&S fan posted: “I am so excited for this omg. I had always wished for a proper Colin cake!!”
