A beloved brand providing delicious, sustainable seafood
Below, we explore Viciβs commitment to sustainability, how it guides their development process and why it makes such a massive impact.
A sustainable methodology
Ensuring the prosperity of the fish populations that put food on our tables is essential for Vici, and plays a major role in their overarching strategy and daily operations. By continuously tracking and analysing key sustainability indicators, Vici work tirelessly towards aligning every aspect of the company with the highest European sustainability standards.
There are many parts to achieving this goal β a key area of focus is the transition to renewable electricity across all production facilities. In 2024, the adoption of solar plants and remote wind greatly increased Viciβs overall use of renewable energy. In fact, the majority of their production facilities are equipped with rooftop solar panels, further reducing Viciβs carbon footprint.
Whether itβs collecting data to inform transparency and sustainable methods, or implementing eco-friendly electricity sources on the production level, every decision that Vici makes is guided by ensuring long-term responsibility and resilience in the face of the climate crisis.
Building a better future
Infusing environmentally friendly initiatives into the fabric of their business operations is not merely a tick box exercise for Vici β it is the driving force behind the implementation of new technologies. They understand sustainability as being the balance between economic value creation, environmental protection and social wellbeing.
This approach towards sustainable growth extends towards all future projects as well. Viciβs new salmon processing facility is an excellent example β utilising high energy efficiency, full use of renewable energy and the installation of industrial cooling systems using exclusively environmentally neutral coolants.
Vici recognises that prioritising the health and wellbeing of our planet safeguards the future of their customers, employees, partners and the wildlife populations that we coexist with.
Supplying MSC-certified seafood
Here in the UK, we have a tremendous appetite for chilled seafood products. The discerning customer will always check the label for an MSC certification, of which a whopping 98 per cent of Vici products hold in our supermarkets.
Thatβs why you can find Vici products in almost every major retail chain, from Asda to Waitrose! The commitment to sustainably sourcing the food that we love to eat is an integral part of Viciβs success in the UK. Another aspect is their keen understanding of our unique tastes.
In Britain, we much prefer red coloured surimi and other seafood sticks, as opposed to the grey colour that dominates the rest of Europe. We also prefer sweeter sticks than other countries, and Vici have a sustainable, clean method of achieving this.
They colour their seafood sticks with lycopene, a dye derived entirely from tomatoes, rather than carmine β an insect derived dye that is prevalent amongst other brands. This commitment to catering for our needs in a responsible fashion is why Vici remains one of the most popular seafood providers in Europe!
