Newcastle bar Mayfair expanding to Durham Riverwalk in old TGI Friday
Mayfair Pub and Kitchen is set to move into the former TGI Friday unit at Durham’s Riverwalk complex.
The American chain closed its Durham branch in October 2024 after falling into administration.
Mayfair, which has built up a reputation as a pre-match drinks hotspot in Newcastle since its opening in 2019, also offers a menu including Sunday roasts and lunchtime deals.
Durham County Council granted planning permission on January 15 for the change of use of the unit, but an opening date remains unconfirmed.
Mayfair’s upcoming arrival comes as a boost to the Riverwalk development, with a new tenant also expected to be confirmed for an unopened peri peri restaurant.
Opening hours, which were initially left out of the application causing concern for the City of Durham Parish Council, will be limited to an 8am opening time and midnight close Monday to Thursday, or 1am on weekends and bank holidays.
