Taste of China, Cockfield, Bishop Auckland: takeaway review
On a foggy Thursday night, January 16, we headed out at 8pm to Taste of China in Cockfield, Bishop Auckland, aiming to miss the rush.
The weather was dreadful with thick fog, pitch dark roads and little to tempt you out, but the food made it more than worthwhile.
From the moment I walked in I was greeted with warm smiles from the couple behind the counter.
Owner Andy Lan served us himself and even added a complimentary portion of salt and pepper chicken for us to try, a generous touch.
My friend ordered the special chow mien and could not stop talking about it. Packed with meat and full of flavour, it was properly satisfying.
We shared prawn crackers, salt and pepper chips and the salt and pepper chicken, all spot on, not too spicy where you can’t enjoy it for the heat but enough to have a nice kick.
I went for the duck pancakes and they were a highlight. The duck was beautifully cooked, served with fresh cucumber and onion and a sweet hoisin sauce that brought everything together.
I have tried more Chinese takeaways than I can count and I am fussy. This stood out.
The food was fresh, bold and comforting. Portions were huge and genuinely filling. Prices were remarkably reasonable and among the cheapest I have had.
Taste of China is a family run takeaway that clearly cares about quality. From the service to the food, price and value, it delivers. If you live nearby it is well worth a visit.
