Middlesbrough Subway handed zero-star food hygiene rating

The sandwich shop – located on Roman Road in Linthorpe – was told urgent improvement was necessary after an inspection on November 22.

Food safety officers ranked the hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, and management of food safety as ‘major improvement necessary’.

Food handling refers to the preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage of food while the management of food safety includes aspects such as staff food safety knowledge and checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.

The takeaway, which has been based on Roman Road for more than 15 years, is one of seven Subway branches across the town.

Subway has been contacted for comment but has not yet responded.

The Northern Echo has also asked Middlesbrough Council for the full food hygiene report.
