Manjaros expands across Teesside and County Durham
The Middlesbrough-founded brand, built on its African and Caribbean fusion menu and its now-iconic parmos, has extended its footprint across Teesside and County Durham while keeping its roots firmly in view.
County Durham got another restaurant this year in Peterlee. The restaurant opened to the public on Thursday, September 18, launching at 4pm with a soft opening after months of anticipation. Signs announcing Manjarosβ arrival on York Road first appeared in April.

The Peterlee site became the chainβs 12th venue in the North East and its 19th nationally.
Announcing the opening, the restaurant said: βItβs been a long time coming, and we cannot wait to welcome you all through the doors! This is just the beginning, and weβre bringing that signature Manjaros flavour you know and love right here to Peterlee.β

In Ormesby, signage appeared on Sunny Field Road next to Ormesby Library, in December 2024 signalling another return to Middlesbrough, the town where Manjaros launched in 2012.
It then opened in July 2025 to a great response.

In Stockton, the next move is already taking shape. βComing Soonβ posters have gone up in the windows of a former vacant unit on Prince Regent Street, with fresh paint marking the arrival of the chain. The opening date currently remains unannounced.

Speculation has also followed the brand this year. Unconfirmed reports suggest Manjaros could be heading for Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Centre.
A trusted source told The Northern Echo the restaurant would operate from the main building, with golf activities relocated to an outhouse and a bar remaining on site. The rumours remain unverified.
The chainβs growing cultural profile has tracked alongside its physical expansion. Its parmo received a nod in BBC3 sitcom Smoggie Queens.
And high-profile figures including Ricky Tomlinson, Paddy McGuinness and James Haskell have been seen eating at Manjaros venues.
Manjaros also has established restaurants operating across Darlington, Middlesbrough, Ingleby Barwick, Billingham, Sunderland and Newcastle, plus Manjaros Express sites.
