Newcastle Airport is set for busiest Christmas yet

More than 110,000 passengers are expected to travel through the terminal this festive season.

This is a 12 per cent rise compared to Christmas 2024.

Nick Jones, chief executive officer of Newcastle Airport, said: “Christmas is always a special time of year for travel but this festive season is set to be our busiest on record.

“Welcoming more than 110,000 passengers is a fantastic milestone and reflects the growing demand for the choice, convenience, and connectivity we offer.”

The airport continues to provide one of the broadest selections of destinations in the region, with more than 80 direct routes and over 300 one-stop global connections available year-round.

Winter sun destinations such as Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Dubai remain popular.

European city breaks to places like Dublin and Krakow are also in high demand.

Newer routes, including Brussels, Budapest, and Wroclaw, have quickly become favourites among travellers.

Mr Jones added: “Whether people are heading for winter sun, a European city break, or long-haul adventures, we’re proud to be the region’s international gateway and we look forward to helping even more passengers take off in 2026.”

The airport’s global hub links are also enabling more passengers to travel further afield, with long-haul destinations such as New York, Bangkok, Sydney, and Hong Kong becoming increasingly accessible.
