Adult dance company to launch in Newton Aycliffe next month
Chelsea Jane Fox, 27, originally from Shildon and now living in School Aycliffe is behind the new venture CCDC, alongside her friend Charlotte Stanton, which stands for Charlotte Chelsea Dance Company.
The classes are set to be held every Friday at 7.15pm starting on January 2 with a location yet to be confirmed.
Chelsea has been dancing since the age of 11, before graduating as a dance teacher at just 18. After stepping away from teaching, Chelsea recently returned to adult dance classes in Middlesbrough with a friend, but felt there was a lack of opportunities closer to home.
She said: “I got speaking with my friend Charlotte Stanton and from there this idea grew.”
CCDC has now partnered with The Dance Room, run by Adara Nattrass, who already offers children’s lessons.
Chelsea added: “Adara is on the team as she can offer more classes than we can, as well – so we can offer more and more styles.
“We are focusing on adults to offer them a space to exercise, meet people, socialise and make friends and have fun.”
“We already have 45 women interested in the classes and have a WhatsApp group running where everyone is chatting, supporting each other and socialising. It is a great space already.”
The organisers are already in talks to add more weekly classes due to the demand.
Chelsea added: “It is open to all over 18s regardless of abilities, ex-dancers or anyone who has an interest in dance. My sister is even joining and she says she has two left feet.
“It is a place where mums and women can put time back into themselves and have fun.
“When you’re a mum you can lose a part of yourself and when you get an opportunity to do something like this and put your time into yourself to express yourself around a great group of women, I hope this space can be special.”
Future plans include potential social events alongside the classes to create a proper community.
