Emma Cherrington named among four finalists for PFS award
Emma Cherrington, who works at Active Chartered Financial Planners in Stockton, was shortlisted for Chartered Financial Planner of the Year at the Personal Finance Societyβs (PFS) annual Personal Finance Awards in London.
The PFS is the professional body for the financial planning sector and has more than 40,000 members across the UK.
The awards celebrate excellence in financial advice and recognise professionals who demonstrate outstanding technical expertise, ethical practice, and a strong commitment to client outcomes.
Ms Cherrington, who will celebrate 10 years with the firm next year, was one of just four finalists in her category out of 8,500 chartered financial planners nationally.
She reached the final stage following a rigorous three-part assessment process, including a detailed submission, a technical case study, and an interview with a panel of industry leaders.
Ms Cherrington said: “It was an amazing experience attending the awards in London.
“The process made me reflect on why I love my job and how I strive to do more.
“Being a Chartered financial planner is more than a qualification, it is dedication to continuous learning, ethical practice, and showing genuine care for clients.
“Iβm proud to represent Active Chartered Financial Planners and our profession at this level.”
Earlier this year, she achieved Resolution-accredited specialist status for her expertise in financial planning relating to divorce and separation.
The accreditation is awarded by Resolution, a national organisation of family justice professionals, and recognises high technical ability, practical experience, and a commitment to client-first advice.
Ms Cherrington is the only financial planner serving on the Tees Valley Resolution committee.
With two Resolution-accredited specialists, Active Chartered Financial Planners is among only a small number of firms in the UKβand possibly the only one in the North Eastβto hold this distinction.
Karl Pemberton, managing director at Active Chartered Financial Planners, said: “Emmaβs recognition by the Personal Finance Society is a fantastic achievement and something the whole team is proud of.
“It reflects her professionalism, expertise, and the impact she has on both clients and colleagues.
“Sheβs an excellent ambassador for us and for the wider financial planning community.”
The Stockton-based firm is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
It has held Chartered status since 2013 and continues to be recognised for raising standards and promoting excellence in the financial planning profession.
