Opening date for newest Aldi in North East revealed


The German discount supermarket chain will open a new branch in West Denton, near Newcastle, on Thursday, July 24, at 8am.

Located on West Denton Way, the new store will replace the current branch on Stamfordham Road in Westerhope.

As part of the opening, silver medallist Sam Cross will be present to cut the ribbon and give away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables to the first 30 customers in the queue.

Andrew Glendinning, the store manager, said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in West Denton.

“It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Sam Cross join us will make it a morning to remember.”

The new store will offer a range of fresh meat, a ‘Food to Go’ section, and the award-winning ‘Specially Selected’ range.

It will also feature exclusive beers, wines, and spirits.

The middle aisle will host the ‘Specialbuys’, offering products from electrical items to garden tools.

Aldi is encouraging charities and food banks in West Denton to register with neighbourly, a community engagement platform.

This will allow them to collect surplus food and perishable products such as fruit, vegetables, and baked goods, seven days a week.

The new store will open from 8am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

It will be located at West Denton Way, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE5 2NF.
