North East firms named on UK’s best managed businesses list

The North East firms were recognised in the inaugural UK Best Managed Companies programme, led by Deloitte Private, which highlights outstanding privately owned businesses for their organisational performance and contributions to their industries and the broader economy.

This year’s winners from the North East are Banks Group (real estate), JT Dove (consumer), The Inn Collection Group (hospitality), and Esh Group (construction).

Claire Evans, UK Best Managed Companies leader at Deloitte, said: “Private businesses play a vital role in our economy.

“They lead the way on purpose, innovation, creating employment and importantly, in driving nationwide growth and prosperity.

“This is what has underpinned our motivation in launching this global awards programme in the UK, bringing private businesses together to recognise their excellence and success.”

The North East was the most represented region on the list, with two companies from London and two from Scotland also making the cut.

Matt Henderson, managing partner for Deloitte Private UK, based in the Yorkshire and North East region, said: “The firms included on the list demonstrated robust management and governance as well as a clearly defined culture and values.

“We had several strong entries in the North East, and four companies from the region made the grade, underlining the exceptional local talent we have.”

The awards programme follows an established model already running in more than 45 countries.

It uses a structured evaluation process to assess companies on strategy, innovation, culture, governance, and financial performance.

Entrants undergo a detailed and independent review of their management practices and business models.

This includes benchmarking against a global community of more than 1,300 top-performing private companies.

The awards celebrate businesses that demonstrate leadership, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose, recognising their impact not only within their sectors but also on the wider UK economy.
